Sparrow Girl

Do you like watching birds fly? If you do, you'll love Sparrow Girl by Sara Pennypacker. It's about a girl that tries to save sparrows because the people in her town try to hurt them. The girl's name is Ming-Li. Ming-Li is trying to save the sparrows because the people in her town think the sparrows are eating all the grain that they grew.

My opinion is that Ming-Li is really brave. In one part of the story, it is almost spring and her Dad will open the barn and her Dad will get mad because her dad does not like sparrows. So Ming-Li hides behind the barn and listens to the grown ups. One of them says that our families will starve. Then Ming-Li pops out from behind the barn and said the sparrows were never our enemies. Next, she showed the men the sparrows in the barn and the men were surprised to see there were still sparrows alive in their town after the sparrow war. Then she became the sparrow girl. Ming-Li was brave to tell the men that there were still sparrows alive even though the men did not like sparrows.

I also like the book Sparrow Girl because Ming-Li stood up for herself when no one else did. She did not want to keep secrets, so she told her dad about the sparrows in the barn and convinced him that sparrows were not enemies and that's how she stood up for herself.

I would also like to save the birds and if I were in the story as the little girl, I would tell the men that the sparrows were never our enemies.

If you like birds, I recommend you read this book by Sara Pennypacker. I also recommend that if you are 5 and younger, you ask your parents if you can read this book. If you are older than 5, then I recommend you can read it by yourself.
