Why are Cassie Logan and her brothers so interested in their land? Well maybe because that?s almost all they have. Being African Americans in 1933 is lousy enough but when ?night riders? start making burnings in their town, everything changes.
Cassie, her older brother Stacey, and her two younger brothers, Christopher-John and Little Man get into a lot of mischief. Being a little different made a bus driver very mean and cruel. Everyday, the bus driver would splash Cassie and her brothers on purpose. Finally, they fought back. By digging a ditch, the bus got stuck and all the white children walk home.
My favorite part was when Stacey beat up his friend, T.J., for lying about cheating and getting Stacey in trouble. No one that I know reminded me of any character in the story because no one I know has lived through this time period. This is one of my favorite books, now that I?ve read it! It is my favorite because it was mystery, suspense, and action ( just what I like ). Although there aren?t any pictures, the book clues you in on everything, but I don?t want to tell you too much!!
I highly recommend this exceptional novel to any one who likes exiting, fun-filled books! Its suspense is as good as its excitement. I bet you?ll love it as much as I did. I hope you take time to read this heartfelt novel. I know Cassie and her brothers would!!
