This book is about a man named Mr.Underton who makes neon signs. One day he makes a sign so big he is blinded by it. He hears about a magic bus token and tries to harness its power to restore his sight. At the same time there is a girl trying to find the same token for a family legacy or the city will freeze solid. The legacy is passed down to a girl named Esterel. She meets a boy named Carlos and tells him about the token. At one time Carlos actually had the bus token, but he lost it. He along with his friend Tom try to help Esterel find the token before Mr.Underton. A terrible snowstorm begins. The city is beginning to freeze. Esterel, Carlos and Tom have six hours to get the token. Will they get it in time?
I liked this book because it was a very suspenseful story, filled with action. This book is unique because it is a brilliant blend of action, suspense and humor. I was in suspense as I read the book because there were many surprises and twists. There were many illustrations in this book and they fit perfectly with the story.
I would recommend this book to kids in grades 4-7 that like comic books. People who like surprises, twists, suspense and action would really enjoy City of Light, City of Dark by Avi and illustrated by Brian Floca.
