This is a book about two friends living in the wrong place at the wrong time. They live in Copenhagen, Denmark, and on every street corner there's always a pair of stiff mean Nazi soldiers with shiny black boots. Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen find themselves in a tough situation one day. They find out that those awful soldiers are relocating all of the Jews in their small town and many others around them. Peter is the Johansen family's friend. He is in a secret club to help the suffering Jews. He comes and takes Ellen's parents to a safer place because the soldiers are supposed to come and get them that night. Ellen stays at Annemarie's house and has to pretend to be her sister. What if the soldiers try to investigate their house? Will the trick work? Will Annemarie's sister, Kirsti, blow it? This story tells how everyone's fast thinking helps to get the Rosens and other Jews into safer places for better ways of living.
I like this book a lot. My favorite part was when Annemarie has to run through the forest to give her uncle a very important package that was dropped. It was an adventure that she couldn't miss out on and it made my heart beat faster and faster as it became more and more intense and exciting. Annemarie reminds me of my best friend Alyssa. She has always had a taste for adventure. I like this book because of all the details and adventures the author includes in a story about how awful times don't ever come between true friends.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who's itching for adventure. This story has the excitement and emotion every good book should have.
