This story is about a boy who really wants to get two puppies but doesn't have the money or the permission. It takes a while but he finally earns the money he needs. The money he earns is a lot for back then, but very little for now. He earns $50.00. He gets so anxious he rides to town on a cart without anybody knowing. Once he gets the dogs he goes hunting for raccoons a lot. When he comes home he has at least one raccoon each time. He signs up for contest and has to hunt with his two dogs for as many raccoons as he can in a certain amount of time. In the end something happens, but I don't want to expose the information because I want you to read the book. The lesson to be learned is if you really work hard for what you want you will probably be able to get it.
I think that the main character acts a lot like me. Mostly because I love dogs and would really want one. I would have earned that fifty dollars to get the dogs.
I loved this book. It made me sad in some parts, but happy in others. The reason I thought it was sad in some parts was in the end, but I want you to find out why when you read it. The reason I thought it was happy was because he got the puppies and won an award with the dogs when they were grown up.
My favorite part was when he described the puppies because they sound so cute. Another part was when the boy and the puppies came home and his mother and father said it was okay to keep them.
I would recommend this book to anyone of any age. It was one of the best books I have read. It will be one of yours as well if you go to your local library and check it out. The book would most definitely be a nice book for people who like dogs and people who like adventure. If you like both, this is the book for you.
