Have you ever gone on a whale watch and there was an emergency? This story is about a family that goes on a whale watch. They wait about 3 hours to see a whale, and finally they see a family of killer whales heading straight for the boat! One of them slammed into the boat, and then another and another. Captain Steave said, “If the boat gets one more hit, it’s going to sink”. The boat was hit once more, and started to sink. Miles, Skyler and Gabby (the kids) went on one life boat, and the parents went on the other. They both floated farther and farther away. They found a medical kit on the raft along with a fishing kit, band aids, medicine, a water bottle and much more. After 3 hours on the raft, they got so hungry. They got the fishing kit and put the bait on the hook and lowered it into the water. After five minutes, they caught something and threw it onto the raft and let it dry in the sun. They let it dry overnight and in the morning there were so hungry that they had to take a bite. Miles took a bite, Gabby fainted at how gross it was and fell off the boat, floating farther and farther away. Miles saw a shark fin heading straight toward Gabby. You will just have to read the book to find out what happened next.
My favorite part of the book is when the whales came into the boat and made it sink. The story reminded me of when my dad, my brother and I went to the grocery store. We were getting yogurts and we got split up. I got really scared because I did not know where they were. This series is a little like Matt Crisafer series because they are both sport series and they both have every sport even volleyball.
I recommend this book for 2nd and 3rd graders, but anyone will like it. I think you would like this book if you like survival books. This book is not too long but it is still a chapter book. There are some scary parts like when Gabby fell into the ocean and a shark swam towards her. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
