I, Ceilidh E., am reviewing the 263-page book entitled The Ersatz Elevator written by Lemony Snicket and illustrated by Brett Hilquist. It is the sixth book in the series called A Series of Unfortunate Events. The Ersatz Elevator was published by HarperCollins Publisher.

This book is an adventure that is exiting, melancholy, sad, enticing, and comedic. It is about the three Baudelaire orphans Violet (14), Klaus (11), and Sunny, a baby, who is no bigger than a boot. In this story Violet, Klaus and Sunny must save themselves and their friends the Quagmire triplets Isadora, and Duncan (their brother Quigly is dead) from the clutches of Count Olaf. He is their evil uncle, and also the Baudelaires first guardian after the horrible fire that killed their parents.

My favorite part in the story is when the Baudelaires discover the hidden passage in the elevator shaft. It leads to Count Olaf's secret hideout. Interesting things happen here. You'll have to read the book to find out the details.

My favorite characters are the Baudelaires and the Quagmire because they are the only people who can take care of themselves.

I like the character Sunny, because she is only a baby but is very intelligent. You may not understand what this sentence means, but you will when you read the book. Like the idea that teeth can come in handy.

Klaus is a good character because he is also intelligent. I, too, like to read and I like the idea that my favorite pastime can come in handy as well.

Violet is intelligent as well, which makes her a good character. She is also a wonderful on the spot inventor, which comes in handy, too.

Isadora is intelligent too. She likes to write and recite couplets. She uses them to send messages (they come in handy, too).

Duncan is a wonderful reporter. He loves to write stuff, and he, too, is intelligent.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. This book is fascinating because the author, Lemony Snicket, writes the book as if the story is true. I recommend this book for all ages, although I suggest the reader reads the books in order from first to last or the books won't be as funny and desirable.
