This book is about three investigators - Pete, Bob, and Jupiter - who try to solve a mystery about a jewel called the Fiery Eye. Along the way they meet an English boy named August (they call him Gus for short). Gus's dad sends Gus a note. This is what it says: "August is your name and August is your fame and in August is your fortune. Delve deeply. The means of my words are for you alone." The note makes the boys want to find the jewel even more. The more you read, the more mysterious the story becomes.
I like this book because it's part of a series. Our teacher read the first book in the series to our class. That made me want to read more books like that. This book is very unique because I had never heard of a jewel like the Fiery Eye before, and that made the book fun to read. My favorite part is when they find the jewel. That reminds me of when I went inside a cave and found a diamond. Pete, who is one of the investigators, reminds me of my younger brother, Sam, who is annoying and a scaredy cat.
I think third graders will like this book because they need to read difficult books, and this was difficult to read. If you like mysteries then this is the book for you. This story has a lot of characters in it, and they do a good job solving the mystery.
